What You’ll Need

These are the tools and ingredients you’ll need to make these sweet and satisfying cinnamon rolls:

Tools

  • Stand mixer
  • Wooden spoon
  • Rolling pin
  • Serrated knife
  • Baking pan (9×9 inches)

Roll and Filling Ingredients

  • ¾ cup warm milk
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons quick rise or active yeast
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg plus 1 egg yolk (room temperature)
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • 3 cups bread flour, plus extra for a work surface
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1 ½ tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup softened butter

Frosting Ingredients

  • 4 oz softened cream cheese
  • 3 tablespoons softened butter
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Dough Directions

To make the dough, sprinkle yeast onto the warm milk in your mixer, then add eggs, sugar, and melted butter. Combine them all, then stir in flour and salt with a spoon until a consistent dough has formed. With your mixer’s dough hook, knead the mix for about eight minutes. The dough should form into a slightly sticky ball. Let the dough rise by storing it in an oiled bowl covered in plastic wrap and a warm towel for about an hour. On a floured surface, spread out the dough and coat it with butter.

Make the Rolls

Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees F. As the oven heats up, mix cinnamon and brown sugar in a bowl, then sprinkle it over the dough. Next, roll the dough up and seal the edges. Use a serrated knife to cut the roll into 1-inch pieces, then place them in a greased baking pan. Cover the pan with plastic wrap and a warm towel for about half an hour, then remove the covering and place the pan in the oven for about 20 minutes, or until the cinnamon rolls are golden brown. As they cool, make the frosting by blending cream cheese, vanilla extract, powdered sugar, and butter in an electric mixer.
